Dear Change.org I am thrilled, relieved and so, so grateful to tell you that the campaign for Helen's Law, which started with this petition in December 2015, has been successful. At a meeting with Justice Minister David Gauke on Wednesday, I was given the wonderful news that Helen's Law will be adopted by the British Government. As a result it will be harder for convicted criminals who cruelly hide their victims' bodies to be granted parole. It also means my daughter will never, ever be forgotten. From the moment this petition was launched in December 2015 I have been both astounded and encouraged by your support in signing and sharing - and for all your wonderful comments. There have been many setbacks and disappointments along the way but watching the numbers on the petition continually rise to such an incredible total has kept me going on even the darkest days. It's incredible to think that a petition that started with one signature gathered more than 600,000. Each and every one of you has played a part in getting this law adopted. It really is a huge step forward for victims and a great day for British justice. More than anything I hope this inspires other campaigners on change.org to continue fighting for what they believe in. The more of us who shout for what is right, the more chance we have of our voices being heard. I'll be sure to keep you updated as to how the law progresses and when it is launched. But, for now, I would like to extend a huge thank you from myself and all the other families of missing murder victims. We can't tell you how much it means to be able to break this wonderful news. God Bless Marie McCourt Mum of missing murder victim Helen McCourt and founder of Helen's Law campaign x
