Thank you all for supporting my campaign for Helen’s Law – for parole to be denied to killers who refuse to co-operate in enabling their victims to be found. As a result of the huge support we have received, my MP Conor McGinn (St Helens North) will be presenting a Ten Minute Bill in the House of Commons on October 11. This is a huge moment for us. ... I – along with other families who are enduring this nightmare - will be present in Parliament to hear the debate. Together we will be taking part in media interviews to highlight the overwhelming need for this law. This Bill is the culmination of years of campaigning. I can’t even begin to tell you how many of our hopes are resting on it. To lose a loved one is devastating. To lose a loved one to murder is horrific. To be denied their funeral causes unimaginable suffering. All we ask is the granting of a basic human right: to bring our loved ones home and lay them to rest. That is all. For the Bill to progress, we need the backing of MPs. And, for that, we need YOU. If you haven’t already done so, please, please, take a minute to contact your MP asking them to BE PRESENT on the day to support the Bill on your behalf. Some points you may find helpful in writing a letter or email are below: You can find your local MP at the following website www.writetothem.com Without the backing of MPs on the day the Bill will NOT progress. Please implore them to support you, their constituents, by attending and voting in favour of Helen’s Law. If your family and friends have different MPs please take a minute to ask them to attend and support the Bill also. Finally, if there are any other families out there suffering this ordeal, please ask them to contact me either on Facebook (Helen’s Law) or Twitter (@marie_mccourt) Thank you again for your support. I can’t tell you how much it means. May God bless you all. Marie Suggested points for contacting your MP: Dear MP - I am one of the 342,699 people who have signed the petition on change.org for Helen’s Law (change.org/Helenslaw). - The campaign has been established by Mrs Marie McCourt of Billinge, Lancs. Her daughter, Helen, aged 22, was murdered in February 1988 but her body has never been found. Her killer Ian Simms was convicted on the grounds of overwhelming forensic evidence and is serving life imprisonment. To this day he still refuses to reveal where Helen is. [ perhaps insert your own paragraph here about why you signed this petition, why you feel so strongly in favour of Helen’s Law] - Mrs McCourt’s supportive MP Conor McGinn (St Helens North) will be raising the issue in the House of Commons in a Ten Minute Bill on October 11. - Please can you attend and support this Bill on my behalf. Thank you
