Updated Risk Numbers using UKHSA (formerly PHE) Week 40 data

For the Delta variant the risk of any pre-symptomatic staff member infecting patients is exactly the same irrespective of vaccination status. But for subsequent asymptomatic transmission it is actually the double vaccinated population which poses the greater risk to patients for two reasons. Firstly, due to the effectiveness of the vaccine means they are over three times as likely to be asymptomatic carriers than the unvaccinated. Secondly, the double jabbed working adult population (aged 18-69) is so large that the very latest figures show that it now accounts for 72.1% of all infections up from 58.4% and the unvaccinated now 13.5%. (Week 40 PHE report compared to week 37 report).   There is a dangerous and unjustifiable difference between the Government's transmission /access policies and the NHS messaging i.e. that vaccinated people catch the virus and transmit it. Let's try to get the Government's pro-vaccination message focused on the health outcomes for particular individuals and not based on out-dated and misapplied transmission benefits, as it increases risk for our vulnerable patients.
