Organ Donation Awareness Week

Hello
I hope this finds you all well. Today marks the last day of Organ Donation Awareness week. Which has been great I’ve seen some brilliant, inspiring stories promoted on social media & in the news. Hopefully it’ll result in a little more education, people discussing this topic, signing up & perhaps most importantly expressing their wishes.
Myself I‘ve been sharing a fact a day on social media and highlighted today how incredible but overlooked tissue donation is. From corneas that restore sight, to bones that can be used for artificial joints for a soldier who’s lost a limb, to skin to help people with severe bones. It’s truly amazing what a gift we can give, no need to be a doctor to save lives.
Also at the beginning of this week I was delighted to be sent this article about one transplant centre who are well on track to cope with any increase in donations the Opt Out system brings (it also happens to be my hospital ). I was lucky to meet one of the recipients competing just 6 months after transplant at the British Transplant Games who even broke a few games records!! Now there’s a fantastic demonstration of how good life post transplant can be.
