My phone decided to post this update before with many a typo and no photo attached helpfully! Modern technology, or user error..you decide � Anyway in case you didn’t see/understand the last update. It was to say last week I was lucky enough to be involved (as an actress) in creating a piece of theatre to raise awareness of genetic heart conditions. Rebecca Shorrocks started this project called “The Beat Goes On” after being diagnosed with a genetic heart condition following collapsing after a run. She had been working as an actress for over a decade & into her high intensity fitness. Which is usually great, but when you unknowingly suffer from a heart condition that’s possibly exacerbated by exercise such as her condition it’s incredibly risky! She has Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy (ARVC) - Its a progressive condition and exercise can irrevocably damage the heart. She has an ICD fitted and has luckily been able to return to work. Since then she’s learnt 80% of people with her condition are diagnosed post mortem, and that twice as many women die due to heart conditions as cancer. This shocked Rebecca, and made her realise what a lucky escape she had. Her goal is now to raise awareness of genetic heart disease. We put together different ideas to develop a play from, and performed for an audience last Friday, with representatives from British Heart Foundation & Cardiomyopathy representatives coming to watch & feedback. The idea is now to develop it into a play we can tour with. I’ll let you know when it’s touring - in case it’s in a city near you! 3 people are still dying a day waiting for a transplant.
