The Issue

The problem is this. The owners who "care" and "look after" their horses in Marehay (Derbyshire) are doing the complete opposite. There are extremely graphic photographs surfacing social media, which are touching those who do not even live in this area. I am a huge animal lover and often give these animals a fuss as they live at the top of my garden. I have seen with my own eyes the sore skin, cracked hooves and the malnourished bodies of the horses. Seeing horrific images of the rashes that almost look like the skin is rotting, the images of the dead foals in the fields and the amount of ragwort that is accessible just shows how un-responsible these owners are.

These horses may be fed, however, they can lose significant amounts of weight due to the repercussions of ragwort poisoning. The plant also causes damage to the liver, which then leads to them behaving abnormally or becoming lethargic as well the horrific skin rashes stated above.

RSPCA have been informed 4 times by others in the area, whom have paid no interest in the matter. They have also been informed in previous years due the death of other foals. People of the village are slowly becoming more aware of the poor maintenance of the animals and are saddened by the images online. I understand these horses may be wild and are fed during the day, however there are extreme signs of neglect in other ways and something must be done about this ongoing issue.
