Tim Hunt's remarks were incredibly sexist and damaging, not only to the scientific community, but to academia as a whole. With such few numbers of women in STEM subjects, it is imperative that we all make a statement together, and make a stand against sexism.

The Royal Society has shown support for gender equality and has said "Too many talented individuals do not fulfill their scientific potential because of issues such as gender and the Society is committed to helping to put this right.". 

The Royal Society have accepted his resignation from the Royal Society award committee. However Tim Hunt still remains as a fellow. 

In order to fully commit to gender equality, the Royal Society should remove Tim Hunt's fellow status.
