Police found the bodies of a woman and a man at a home in Werribee, Victoria, on Friday. The 31-year-old man murdered the 29-year-old woman and then killed himself. She is the 27th Australian woman killed this year - and the second woman killed this week. Last year we lost 79 women to violence - the year before 106 women were killed.
Gerrod Elbourne had a long history of violence including harming former partners, burning down his parent's home and killing their dog. He spent around 12 months in jail for the arson - had he served a longer sentence, the woman would still be alive.
Last week, three Australian women were killed in a 48-hour period. Two of the women died in murder-suicides perpetrated by their male partners; and the other woman's son is charged with her murder.
There's been no word from our Prime Minister or other leaders and the media remains relatively silent.
Please help me get a Royal Commission into the Killing of Women and Girls - sign the petition (f you haven't already) and share it with your circle. The more voices we get the better chance we have of success!
