A report issued today by Environmental Standards Scotland (ESS) following a representation made by solicitor Guy Linley Adams on behalf of Coastal Communities Network and funded by Highlands and Islands Environment Foundation should now signal the end of ADD use at Scotland’s salmon farms. The ESS have confirmed the reason why you signed the petition: that unlicenced use of ADDs (which disturb and displace dolphins, porpoise and whales) is unlawful. Any salmon farmers who try to use ADDs must now expect enforcement actions against them,
Until this campaign Marine Scotland had been failing in their duty to enforce the laws protecting these animals. Marine Scotland has now started inspecting farms.
We will still be watching and listening, and we would encourage anyone who is passing a fish farm in a boat to put a gopro in the water and check that there is no ADD noise (if you do record any ADD noise please let us know: david.ainsley177@gmail.com)

It’s a fantastic result and we want to thank all the people involved in making this happen including all of you who have signed this petition. This really shows that a concerted effort can make a difference. No doubt there will be more campaigns in the future but for now let’s celebrate the fact that today our cetaceans face less disturbance and injury from unlawful ADD use by salmon farms.
