Thanks to all who tuned into TV One's 2-hour documentary, "The Beat Don't Stop!" It capped off an epic Juneteenth Weekend that started with TV One's stock jumping 1,555%! Go-Go artists deserve a piece of the pie. When Washington, D.C. made Go-Go Music "official" in February, it came with no funding. Support for Go-Go was not included in the Mayor's 2021 budget. D.C. Law 23-71 gives the Mayor until October, 2020 to finalize the plan to make Go-Go 'Official,' so there is still time; However Go-Go artists have not worked since March thanks to COVID-19 and they need support now. We support ALL of the $38 million in funding allocated for DC artists and arts organizations; We ask only that this funding be distributed fairly, equitable and inclusive of Go-Go and all the Black artists who have shaped and sustained the Chocolate City.
Several members of the Council of DC are working diligently to figure out ways to support Go-Go in these trying times. As they are working on the budget, please show them you support their efforts to find ways to support Go-Go and that we have their back!
