Hi everyone,
More than 8,100 people have taken a stand against hatred by signing this petition. Father Hall has been a good and faithful priest for over 26 years, and in the eyes of the student body, he remains a crucial member of the Seton Hall community. By posting on Facebook in favor of “NOH8,” Father Hall was not going against Catholic doctrine. In fact, he was living the words of Jesus Christ. Unfortunately, Father Hall was removed from his position at Seton Hall and that decision appears to be final.
On July 1st, Father Hall’s replacement at SHU will begin his work there. It is important that we welcome this man with open arms and show him the respect that Seton Hall students have shown Father Hall. Unfortunately, this does mean that there is very little possibility of Father Hall returning to the university. However, in Father Hall’s own words, there remains an opportunity to start an open and reasonable discussion of LGBT issues on a Catholic campus.
Archbishop Myers, Archbishop Hebda (assistant Archbishop), President Esteban, and His Holiness Pope Francis will receive copies of our final petition to communicate that in the eyes of the Seton Hall student body and others, Father Hall has not gone against Catholic teaching or doctrine. Seton Hall has long embraced those of different ethnic, racial, religious, and cultural backgrounds. Why was a well-loved priest removed for continuing that tradition?
The students of Seton Hall do not tolerate hatred, nor should the Archdiocese of Newark. Thank you for your support thus far, and please continue sharing the petition in the coming weeks to show support for Father Hall and the ideal of love over hate.
Let’s get to 10,000 before we present it to the Archbishop!
