Proper Veterinary Care

The Issue

There are currently no laws in the Commonwealth of Virginia to assist animal owners with getting the adequate care needed for their animals. The only available option for receiving care for an animal aside from paying the full amount due at time of service is to attempt applying for a "Care Credit" to cover the full cost of a veterinary visit, surgery, etc. Currently, animal hospitals can refuse treatment if an animal owner does not cover the full cost of the visit/procedure due at time of service unless the animal is surrendered to the facility and ownership is relinquished of said animal. More affordable options need to be made available for persons unable to obtain pet insurance and/or "Care Credit" - Examples of this include: the elderly, disabled, and/or owners of service animals.
