WE'RE STILL OUT HERE! :)
And thank you SO MUCH to all of you who have been fighting alongside us since early January, as well as those of you who are joining us more recently!
Organic growth (people who share our petition and ask their friends and family to care about this cause) has always been the best way to keep our cause gaining interest and support! You may not think sharing to your Facebook wall, writing a tweet on Twitter, creating a short Tiktok, and/or sharing posts and stories on Instagram is going to do much - but you are powerful. Your actions matter. More people than you think, whom you are connected with, have had their lives affected by sexual assault. The statistics say 1 out of every 6 people, women AND men.
This isn't a small problem.
And it isn't going to get better without some REAL change.
We're happy our cause made it out of Quincy, Illinois - a town of 40,000 people in the Midwest that we'd wager the majority of Americans do not know even exists. It was noticed in Chicago, by Attorney General Kwame Raoul, and that felt like a step forward. But AG Raoul's petition to the Illinois Supreme Court was promptly denied, and the only reason we were given was (what feels to us) a completely invalid reason. So we are asking the Supreme Court to reconsider AG Raoul's petition to file mandamus in case 128177. We are waiting on pins and needles to hear anything from the Fourth District Appellate Court concerning 4-22-0083. We are checking in on Judici - Adams County for new entries on case 2021CF396. And we're saying a lot of prayers.
Concerning the Adams County Illinois docket entries: The defense has filed to postpone the court date that was to occur April 7, 2022. It is now scheduled for August 4, 2022. In the mean time, we are planning events, and we will certainly be sure to invite you all! :) We'll keep you posted. We'll wait. Because a few months is nothing. A few months just means more time to bolster our supports, to refresh our spirits, to think of new ways of approaching this problem, and to strengthen our resolve. Because what was wrong in the past is still wrong now, but making it better in the future is a worthy goal.
And we're here for it.
