Dear friends,
Thank you once again for signing our petition and demanding sanctuary for Betty the elephant.
Due to Covid-19, Betty and her companion Bo have been off the road for the majority of 2020. The last time we saw them their March performance in Grants Pass, Oregon had been canceled. Fortunately, a brave advocate was on hand and gathered photos and video of both elephants before they made their way back to their "home" on the Carden family property. (In the attached photo, you can see Bo in the front with Betty in the back pressing her head against a trailer.)
Unfortunately, while the elephants are on the Carden property, we have no access to them or thorough knowledge of their current condition. CompassionWorks International will continue monitoring their situation as best we can, as well as the actions of all circuses using animals, so that we can continue with our protests, advocacy, evidence-gathering, and filing complaints with the USDA as needed.
Carden International Circus has scheduled tour dates beginning in mid-January through mid-Spring. It is possible that Betty and Bo could join that tour, as elephants will certainly be included in the show. We anticipate other circuses abusing animals will also return to the road in 2021.
