Hello animal friends, I’m excited to report that earlier this week, The Humane League’s Grassroots Coordinator hosted a protest during rush hour in front of Roark Capital’s headquarters in downtown Atlanta! We sent a clear message that investing in companies falling behind on animal welfare reform will not go unnoticed! As the major shareholder of CKE Restaurants and Arby’s, Roark has the power and responsibility to address the animal cruelty going unchecked in its investees’ supply chains. Please help support the efforts of everyone who is here taking a stand for chickens by taking the following quick actions! 1) Reply to the University of Michigan's latest tweet: https://twitter.com/umich Choose one of the options below or write your reply. 1) @UMich, Please do the right thing for animals & divest from Roark Capital! #RoarkCapitalCruelty http://bit.ly/2y8Zm9y 2) When is @UMich going to respond to its student's concerns? #RoarkCapitalCruelty https://www.michigandaily.com/section/viewpoints/op-ed-inhumane-investment 3) Why would @Umich choose to invest in Roark Capital, a company caught up in an animal cruelty scandal? www.roarkcapitalcruelty.com 4) @UMich, say no to animal cruelty - divest from Roark Capital Group! #RoarkCapitalCruelty 5) Thousands of people are calling on @UMich to divest from Roark Capital! Please take action. #RoarkCapitalCruelty http://bit.ly/2y8Zm9y 2) Call Ezra Field, Roark’s Senior Managing Director, and Chief Investment Officer. Call: (404) 591-3337, please leave a message if no one answers. Say something like: Option #1: When is Roark going to respond to the concerns of protesters and consumers who are urging your investee, CKE Restaurants, to address the animal cruelty in its chicken supply chain? Dozens of major food companies have already adopted comprehensive policies to improve the lives of chickens. Until CKE produces the same policy, I will be taking my business to companies like Burger King, Subway, and Chipotle that take animal welfare seriously. Option #2: It’s unacceptable that Roark Capital Group has failed to ensure that all the restaurant chains it invests in have publicly committed to meaningful animal welfare standards. Please do the right thing and demand better from the companies you invest in. Animal cruelty should never be tolerated! Option #3: As the major shareholder for Arby’s and CKE, Roark Capital has the opportunity to instigate major improvements in their supply chains. I hope you'll be a leader for animals by urging the companies you invest in to adopt a meaningful chicken welfare policy like the one Focus Brands has already committed to. Thank you for speaking up for animals! -Ellie
