Responses to our petition coming in, but we need your help!

Hi Folks,

The petition as it stands (numbers, and comments) were distributed to a number of local councils, bodies, and politicians last week. We are now starting to get responses back and I intend to publish these once we have a few more through.

It is very re-assuring that those associated with SMBC (Stockport) are quoting the live recommendation in the Atkins report for a ('3rd time lucky') bypass from the A555 to a new junction to the east of Disley (IE just after New Mills). Those of you who have read previous updates will note that we were already aware of this. We will be pushing back on these responses to enquire about timescales and next steps. 

High Peak /Derbyshire have been disappointingly quiet, and have not even had the courtesy to respond. Given the above plans, Furness Vale and New Mills could well be left out of a new bypass, and the traffic currently seen in High Lane and Disley will be pushed back there, unless a new bypass goes all the way to the Chapel bypass. Respondents in the High Peak might want to lobby their council executive and councillors directly. You can do so here. 

Cheshire East are also looking favourably at a bypass, and are investigating is as a solution to mitigate against the horrendous air pollution in the village. Again, queries abound about timescales and next steps.

Disappointingly, not one of our local MPs has responded, nor has the main recipient, Boris Johnson (who also has the full list of signatories). Amazing given there is an election looming!

In summary, I am concerned about the lack of a sense of urgency, but I hope our campaign will help build momentum. I'm also really worried about the lack of engagement in the High Peak - whilst traffic may not be as much of an issue as it is in Disley and High Lane it will be if there is a new bypass built terminating just before New Mills...
