I order to drive a motorhome with a gross weight of over 3500kg you need to take an extra test to obtain a C1 licence. It means a vision and medical test. Another theory test and then HGV driving lessons. If you pass then you can drive a 7.5 tonne HGV with a tachograph. This is completely overkill just to be able to drive a motorhome.

My name is Fiona and I own a motorhome with unladen weight of 3,500kg. As I got my licence many years ago I can drive it without any additional test but my partner and daughter who have newer licences cannot. This places a huge burden on me to do all the driving. It also means my daughter can’t use the MH for festivals and trips without going through a costly and needless process.

Not only this these rules is going destroy a whole industry as the newer generation will not be qualified to drive motorhomes with a gross weight of over 2500kg.
