Stop the Deforestation of Richmond's Historic Monroe Park

Stop the Deforestation of Richmond's Historic Monroe Park
The Issue
Historic Monroe Park was once a beautiful public park with its most prominent feature being its vibrant urban tree canopy. Under the direction of a few individuals, it has tragically lost many of its old growth trees. Now the City of Richmond and Monroe Park Conservancy are requesting approval to forego planting of 8 trees that were included in the approved master plan and replacing them with moveable planters to increase the scope of surveillance from cameras mounted on the Checkers House building. This further loss of urban tree canopy is unacceptable and I respectfully request that it be denied by both the Urban Design Committee and Richmond Planning Commission. Thank you.
