Victoria Courthouse Lawn - NO CAMPING, PLAYGROUND WANTED!

The Issue

Christy Clark’s provincial government is committed to let people camp overnight in the park where the “tent city” was located. It’s unimaginable that they are doing this when there is no legal requirement to allow anyone to camp there. Senior bureaucrats of Christy Clark’s government created the “tent city” by deliberately allowing campers, even when Victoria’s Deputy Police Chief told them of the consequences last fall. Ever since that day, Ms. Clark’s “families first” government has spent about $30 million of our tax dollars in knee-jerk reactions to this debacle. Money that could have been spent to thoughtfully support families who are in need – not on high priced lawyers for example. For some bizarre reason, after spending another $500,000 on cleaning up that park, they are going to allow campers at night – the very time neighbours say the park is at its worst, with noise, drinking, drug use, fires, vandalism, thefts, intimidation, harassment and assaults of those in and around the “camp.” Mad as Hell Victoria continues to speak out against the bad decisions and actions Ms. Clark and her government are inflicting on the reasonable, law-abiding, tax-paying citizens who live around the provincial court property. We now are asking you to let them know this is a mind-numbing horrible idea. Sign our petition and pass it to anyone you know telling Premier Christy Clark, Housing Minister Rich Coleman and Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps that there can be no camping of any kind on the provincial court property.

Let's get this green space remediated.... How about a park with a water feature or playground for children? Maybe tables to have lunch or even dinner in the park!?

Hi all. How about a petition for the Minister to build a playground! It will have the same effect because there is no camping allowed near playgrounds AND it is a more positive approach. AND the Minister himself suggested that he might do this! I'm certainly pushing for this option. We need a playground for our growing downtown residential population which includes many children and young families. Can you change the name of this petition and help push for a playground?!
