My latest email to all City Councilors. It would be great if you can reach out to the City of Toronto and your local Councilors to voice your support.

Hello to all concerned,

To say my frustration regarding the complete lack of transparency and communication regarding the review process for renewing Toronto Humber Yacht Club's 20 year lease is boiling over would be an understatement.

It is clear the Toronto Humber Yacht Club has violated many regulations set out by both the TRCA & The City of Toronto with complete impunity for the better part of the last decade.

THYC are not good stewards of the fragile public lands they have been granted sole use of. They have used inappropriate hardscape materials to cover over the vast  majority of the property without seeking the appropriate permits. When these issues were reported to the city as they were happening the public got nothing but a runaround from the Park Staff who are currently reviewing THYC's lease request. TRCA said they could do nothing to address the issue as the lease is being managed by the city. Toronto Parks said they could do nothing about the issue as the club is on TRCA land. Bylaw said they could do nothing because THYC is on private property.

Not only have they violated TRCA & City of Toronto regulations by covering the vast majority of the property with inappropriate hardscape, they have also cleared a significant section of the woodland neighboring the public property they occupy without permits. Once again when the issues were reported, concerned citizens got more of the same runaround.  TRCA said they could do nothing to address the issue as the lease is being managed by the city. Toronto Parks said they could do nothing about the issue as the club is on TRCA land. Bylaw said they could do nothing because THYC is on private property.

It's clear the "City Staff"reviewing the 20 year lease renewal for THYC are the very same city staff who were complicit in the THYC's many regulatory infractions over the past few years by consistently ignoring the illegal activity taking place on the public lands THYC occupies thus emboldening ever greater levels of destruction to the land.

This may shock the officials we elected to represent us, but hearing back from every elected officials office we contact that "City Staff" is taking the public's concerns into account in the lease renewal process provides little to no confidence or solace. "City Staff" have been ignoring the public's concerns about the way THYC operates for years and have done zero to rein in the club's abominable behaviour to the environment and mistreatment of other river users.

It is clear "City Staff" would prefer to do nothing vs acting in the best interest of the public and the environment so if left to their own devices will simply rubberstamp the 20 year lease renewal and then sit back and give the public the same runaround it has been performing for the better part of the last decade.

It's also clear if THYC is given the lease renewal request they are seeking, it will embolden the club operators to be even more callous toward the public land they occupy and the general public who wish to enjoy the Humber River.

The time for political doublespeak and avoidance to end is now. Do not renew THYC's 20 years!
