The Issue

In 2026, while our country is rapidly advancing in IT and AI, the field of psychology remains stagnant, particularly in career progression opportunities. This is creating a bottleneck for many talented individuals, including myself, who aspire to pivot into clinical psychology but face significant obstacles due to the rigid mandates of the Rehabilitation Council of India (RCI). It feels as though our dreams are being systematically crushed by outdated policies that don't reflect our era's dynamic professional landscape.

I'm a passionate psychology enthusiast who, like many others, has seen their dreams deferred due to the stringent RCI requirements. These mandates demand extensive educational commitments that are often impractical for those of us who need to maintain our current jobs for financial security—or for those who are willing to study further but find the path unnecessarily brutal. Many of us are willing to adapt by taking bridge courses or even pursuing additional degrees, but the current system leaves no room for flexibility.

Statistics show a booming demand for mental health professionals, yet barriers to entering this field prevent us from contributing our skills and fulfilling our vocational dreams. We need reform that reflects a realistic and supportive structure for aspiring clinical psychologists. Such reform should include flexible education pathways like part-time programs, distance learning options, and recognition of previous professional experiences or other relevant qualifications.

By modernizing the RCI mandates, we can not only foster a more inclusive professional ecosystem but also align our national goals with the industry's rapid development in IT and AI fields. Embracing adaptable and fair policies will encourage a diverse range of candidates to bring their talents to the field of psychology, ultimately benefiting the mental health landscape of our country.

I urge the RCI and relevant authorities to reconsider and update the current stipulations for entering the field of clinical psychology. We need a system that supports us rather than hinders us—a system that keeps pace with the innovative spirit guiding India's progress.

Please sign this petition to help advocate for necessary changes that will open pathways to many more aspiring clinical psychologists while addressing the real needs of our society.
