Petition updateRevise child maintenance calculations to consider both parents' incomes🚨 The CMS System Is Breaking Parents — And It Nearly Broke Me

Hello, my name is Jodi, and I’m speaking out because the Child Maintenance Service is pushing parents to breaking point. The CMS looks ONLY at the paying parent’s income.

It currently ignores:

▫️the receiving parent’s income

▫️the receiving parent’s government benefits

▫️existing debts accumulated while married to receiving parent.

▫️the real cost of living for paying parents who still have 5050/sole care of other children.

This is state‑enabled financial abuse.💔

The Mental Health Impact Is Devastating. These are not opinions — these are facts:

❗️Internal DWP reviews have investigated deaths — including suicides — where CMS involvement was a factor.

❗️FOI data shows paying parents have higher death rates than the general population of the same age.

❗️Thousands of paying parent report anxiety, depression, and feeling financially trapped by a system that ignores their reality.

This is not “a few bad cases”.

This is a national crisis.⚖️

What We’re Fighting For 💪

1️⃣ A fair system that considers both parents’ incomes, including benefits

2️⃣ A system that reflects shared care properly

3️⃣ Protection from CMS being used as a weapon of control

4️⃣ Stability for children in both homes, not just one
