Thank you for signing our petition!
I am writing to request that you please send a letter to your MLA. This won’t take much time, and we’ve made it easy by providing contact instructions and a ready-to-use letter for your MLA here: https://www.annastokke.com/mla-letter
Even if you have already written to your MLA, I encourage you to send this letter too, as it refutes several incorrect claims behind the policy change.
You can make a significant impact by sending this letter! Receiving many letters will pressure the government to act!
Also, I want to let you know that you have already had an impact by signing this petition since it has helped draw awareness to the issue.
- The Manitoba government was questioned about the policy change numerous times during House Debates in the Legislative Assembly in November and December.
- Over 30 paper petitions have been read in the Legislative Assembly, with more to follow in March.
- The issue has received a significant amount of media attention.
- The issue was debated for one hour on December 5, 2024, in the Legislative Assembly.
Despite significant attention to this issue, the Manitoba government has yet to commit to reversing the misguided changes to teacher certification. House Debates are scheduled to take place again in March, so now is a critical time to add pressure.
For a summary of the flawed process that led up to the policy change, see this Winnipeg Free Press article: https://www.winnipegfreepress.com/opinion/analysis/2025/02/01/ndp-government-gets-failing-grade-on-teachers
Other ways you can help:
- Share the online petition with your friends and family, and on social media
- Collect signatures on paper petitions; these will be read out in the Legislative Assembly. To receive paper petitions, please contact Anna Stokke at a.stokke@uwinnipeg.ca
Thank you for your support! With continued pressure, we can push the government to correct this mistake.
