Good afternoon,
I have some exciting news in the campaign for public ownership of our water.
You may remember that I previously asked you to support a petition created by our friends at Windrush WASP on the official parliamentary website, calling for a referendum on the public ownership of water.
That petition has now passed 173,000 signatures and will be debated in the House of Commons on 14 September.
Although there will not be a parliamentary vote at this stage, the debate gives us an important opportunity to put pressure on the Government and demand the right to decide the future of our water.
But for the debate to have an impact, our MPs need to be there representing us.
Today, I am asking you to take one simple action: contact your MP, either through their parliamentary email address or via the TheyWorkForYou website. Tell them that you expect them to attend the debate on 14 September and speak in support of holding a referendum on the public ownership of water.
It will take only a few minutes, but if enough of us act, MPs will find it much harder to ignore the strength of public feeling.
MPs are elected to represent us. If they choose not to do so, we should remember that the next time we vote.
I’ll be in touch with more information as the debate approaches.
Thank you for your continued support.
