The water industry's financial regulator, OFWAT, have announced this morning that, over the next five years, water bills across England and Wales will increase by an average of 36%, with customers in the south east facing an astonishing price hike of 53%.
This is an abject capitulation to greedy water companies, who are already funnelling our money into bonuses and dividends rather than vitally important infrastructural investment. It is a betrayal of the UK public and should only serve to re-motivate us all to push for a return to public ownership.
Our group, SOS Whitstable, are part of the Sewage Campaign Network, who have created a tool which allows you to automatically e-mail to your local MP demanding that they object to these increases.
Simply enter your postcode, fill out a couple of personal details and the tool will handle the rest.
