Petition updateReturn the Water Industry to Public OwnershipWill the Opposition Support Nationalisation?

We've reached 190,000 signatures, an incredible effort!

However, if nationalisation or any level of reform of the water industry is going to become a realistic prospect, we now need to convert your support into political support.

The Conservative Party do not want nationalisation. They believe that the Environment Bill and the UK Sewage Discharge Plan are sufficient to solve this national crisis. I strongly disagree.

So, as of today and with the party conferences approaching, I am calling for opposition parties, specifically the Labour Party and the Liberal Democrats, to voice their support for renationalisation of the water industry. It's time to get off the fence!

As ever with politicians, this won't happen without us giving them a good push. So here are some key actions we can take to help.

1) Post on social media tomorrow morning, Friday 2nd September, calling for the Labour Party and the Lib Dems to support nationalisation . Include the hashtag #NationaliseWater and, if enough of us do it, it might start trending.

2) If you live in a Labour or Liberal Democrat constituency, e-mail your MP asking them, and the party, to support nationalisation. If you have a friend of family member who does, ask them to.

3) The 2022 Labour Party Conference begins on Sunday 25th September in Liverpool. The 2022 Liberal Democrat Conference begins on Saturday 17th September in Brighton. If you are a member of either party and are attending, please ask any MP or councillor who you encounter to support us.

4) Share, share and share this petition again. We are so close to 200,000 signatures and the more we get, the greater the chance that the media picks it up and adds further pressure.

Thank you all so much for your support,

Ed Acteson
