Thank you to all of you who have signed and shared this petition! 8,000 and still growing; though we NEED your continued support in getting the word out there. For those of you who haven’t seen our Facebook page, we have attracted some wonderful endorsements from key figures in the music industry and continue to do so. Thanks to Deborah Conway, Joe Camilleri, Paul Grabowsky AO, Shane Howard AM, Stuart Coupe, Jeff Lang, Jordie Lane, Kutcha Edwards, Gaynor Crawford, Stu Hunter, Steve Nieve (Elvis Costello & The Imposters), Rebecca Barnard and Woodford Folk Festival for your support. Each of these artists and industry professionals has made a statement and you can read them all here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/291495014578867/ The team working on this campaign; myself and fellow musicians Julien Wilson, Sarah Carroll, Gleny Rae, Kate Burke, Heath Cullen, Aine Tyrrell, Paul Gioia and Bill Jackson have been working around the clock this week collecting formal endorsements from prominent music industry people and we’ll be releasing the long list very soon. We’re excited to say that the response to this campaign has been overwhelming and passionate. Stay tuned for further developments... coming soon! This campaign is much more than just an e-petition. When the petition was first launched, we were responding directly to the announcement made by the ABC last week. Since this time, we have become aware that the much-loved program ‘Jazztrack’, and also ‘Soundpost’ will also be axed. We have been advised that Jazztrack will still exist, though only in digital format and therefore not available to the VERY many regional and rural listeners who have limited access to affordable high-speed broadband. Essentially we are watching the almost complete annihilation of music from Radio National’s programming agenda. The issue of access is also one that is frequently commented on in the petition comments – the lack of access to music when Radio National is the only radio are able to access in rural areas. We’d like to acknowledge this concern as one of the key issues raised by you in your comments. We intend to compile these comments and also issue these to the media. Time is of the essence. We believe that some of the presenters associated with these programs will be formally unemployed within the next two weeks. This is why we are pushing this as hard as we can, as fast as we can. We need another 2,000 signatures. CAN YOU HELP US? All media enquires: Julien Wilsen Jkwilsax@gmail.com
