Retroactively Reinstate All Honors Course Grade-Weighting (Bumps) at LBHS

Retroactively Reinstate All Honors Course Grade-Weighting (Bumps) at LBHS
The Issue
In 2016 LBUSD School Board voted three to two to eliminate Honors Course grade bumps that did not directly align with the UC system’s policy. This change directly impacts all high school students who will no longer be awarded or rewarded for taking more rigorous courses such as Honors level classes. The effects are far reaching including negative impact on merit scholarship to colleges that use higher GPAs to award merit monies, college admissions based on higher GPAs, and motivational setback for students who might otherwise take a risk to engage in more difficult classes. We are seeking to have the school board retroactively reinstate the Honors Course grade bump policy for all Honors Level Courses at LBHS.
