Petition Update – Progress and Next Steps for Station Road, Edgware

We’re making progress! I'm pleased to report that following last month’s update, the bin upgrades have now been implemented. The new bins are modern, fox-proof, include cigarette disposal features, enable recycling, and most importantly – they’re actually in place. A big thank you to our MP and the local council for listening to the concerns of Edgware residents. Despite earlier feedback citing budget constraints, the council found a way to improve street cleaning efforts and deliver real change.

While this is a very welcome development, Station Road still needs a few additional bins to properly cover the entire stretch and prevent overflow.

What’s Happening Now
Pavements
Our MP’s team is actively collecting evidence of broken pavements to raise with the council. I’ve already submitted a number of photos, but the issue remains widespread. I strongly encourage councillors to walk down Station Road and see the poor condition of the paving for themselves – cracked, broken, and often dirty.

Phone Boxes
These remain under review, with conversations held with BT. We’ll share more as we get updates on their status.

What Still Needs Attention
Enforcement – We need consistent enforcement to ensure litter and cigarette end up in the bins, not on the street.

Street Cleaning – It is an absolute necessity to immediately purchase and operate pavement vacuuming and cleaning machinery.

Weed Removal – Weeds continue to grow unchecked, particularly around the underground station and Broadway Shopping Centre. This gives a neglected look to an area that deserves better.

There is progress on the ground, however, if we want this change to continue, we must apply pressure—continuously and collectively. Politicians act when they feel the weight of public demand. Please take just two minutes today to send a short email to our local representatives. Your voice, joined with many others, can make the difference.
