Save Our Mill Pond – Campaign Update

We’ve reached our first major milestone of 200 signatures, and I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who has signed and shared our petition.

It’s fantastic to see so many people coming together to support the restoration of our much-loved Mill Pond.

But this is only the beginning.

Where are we with the campaign?

We have now contacted several organisations, including:

Mid Sussex District Council
Burgess Hill Town Council
The Environment Agency
We’ve received acknowledgements and are awaiting further responses.

We’re also looking into the role of the Heaseland Estate, the decisions surrounding the pond’s future, and whether all reasonable options for restoration have been properly considered.

What happens next?

We want answers to some important questions:

Why was the decision made not to restore the pond?
What surveys and assessments were carried out?
Were alternative restoration options considered?
What would it actually cost to bring the pond back?
Was the local community given a meaningful opportunity to have its say?
We understand that maintaining the pond may involve significant costs and environmental considerations. However, we believe the community deserves transparency about the decisions affecting this much-loved local landmark.

Our next target is 500 signatures! 🎯
