AR Choices is a program which allows disabled persons to have an in home care giver rather than to be placed in a nursing home. The cost for this program is approximately $18,170.00 for in home care and $50,100.00 for nursing home care. (per DHS) The in home care gives the disabled, freedom to be a part of the community, gives them more direct care and helps to maintain their dignity. The program has made 4,000 cuts to patients who were receiving benefits from this program.  This is causing undue stress to participants, who could possibly face having to look at nursing home care.  This program helps individuals like Rob and myself to continue to live at home with loving parents, or a caregiver they choose and trust, who give us  better care than we could receive anywhere else for a fraction of the cost!  DHS does not dispute that some of us who had cuts in hours need 24/7 care.
