Hi brave supporters who care about the disappearance of our evening bus services,
Many of you have pointed out other results of the withdrawal of public transport in the region over the past few years as well as specific harms done to the Locharbriggs and Heathhall area by the gradual attacks on the No. 1 and 2 routes.
I note this seems to be speeding up. Cafes restaurants and pubs seem to be closing down or reducing their hours. Festivals and concerts seem to be being cancelled or less frequent. Students have told me they cannot get around the area at night and a health care worker I know is leaving the area due to the long walk from the hospital to Heathhall all winter., the third winter in a row
Removing public transport is a major factor in making a town and region less attractive to anyone except the wealthy and the retired.
We must get this bus back, if we fail those who are looking to cut public spending and companies who have little interest but maximising profits will be encouraged to keep slashing our services and our rightful inheritance of decent employment prospects and ways of meeting each other and having access to leisure arts and social activities in the evening especially
Keep trying to get people to sign it.
I have been told to give it to Stagecoach first. If they refuse the Council and Swestrans will try to find another operator for evening buses or something similar.
Only then will they consider providing supplying some of our own money from Council Tax and Government taxes to subsidise our own bus routes.
I'd like to get to 600 as that would take us over a thousand adding last year's.
Let's go for it. If Stagecoach refuse I suggest we hand it into the Council and attend meetings open to the public such as Swestrans board in June ?
