“Radha Bharadwaj's 1991, Closet Land, is a valuable film that contains themes of authoritarian control and attempted manipulation. Perhaps this is why there is an on-line movement to digitize and restore the film for the benefit of a younger, growing audience. I'm adding my voice to this outstanding mission. The film, starring a wonderful performance by Madeleine Stowe and the late Alan Rickman, is an allegory and a perfect study for our times when democracy is being challenged in countries throughout the world. It's also a testimony to the strength of the human spirit.
