We want to get our election questionnaire to as many councilors, mayors and candidates as possible! Check our Election 2026 page to see if they've answered yet, and if not, send it to them!
We have a lot of work to do before election day on Oct 17th! Restore Island Rail Society has become a 3rd Party Sponsor in the election so we’ll be promoting candidates that have expressed support for the Island Rail Corridor.
Four of them have already responded! They are posted on the 2026 Election page with their personal comments. I liked them all, but Nanaimo Council Hilary Eastmure’s hit it home for me when she reflected on the feedback she got after presenting and having passed a motion to Nanaimo City Council to support establishing clear transit connections to the Island Corridor “My motion passed unanimously, and the large number of supportive emails and comments I received from the public clearly demonstrated widespread support for restoring rail service on Vancouver Island."
I’m happy to say that the Petition keeps growing!
The petition has grown to 42,641 signatures. Let’s keep sharing, promoting and talking to your neighbors and friends about the railway. We’re a force to be reckoned with and decision makers have taken notice.
Last minute event invitation
It looks like we’ll be setting up our table at the Comox Nautical Days Festival August 1 -3, 2026 at Comox Marina Park, 127 Port Augusta St, Comox, B.C. We are always amazed how excited event organizers are when they hear about us. In this case, they managed to squeeze us into a full venue. Our Northern Director Chris has been scrambling to get the insurance for it and to be ready to set up! I’ll be joining him up there, so we hope to see some of you too!
