Supporters,
I first want to start by appreciating the invitation George Anderson, Parliamentary Secretary of Transit, extended to me to come to the legislature and be introduced! Thanks George!
Vancouver Islanders could save money, time, and stress by taking advantage of an integrated multi-modal solution for passenger travel.
Right now, Vancouver Island’s transit system is a disjointed, unsynchronized, and fragmented network. That means many people simply can’t rely on it to get where they need to go, when they need to be there.
Filling the gaps are expensive private, for-profit transportation options that often drain disadvantaged people’s bank accounts while providing only the bare minimum level of service.
For those who can manage to afford a vehicle, the costs never stop. Fuel, maintenance, insurance premiums, vehicle payments, parking, repairs, and collision deductibles consume thousands of dollars every year. On top of that comes the hidden cost of congestion, hours lost sitting in traffic, stress, missed family time, and reduced productivity.
Meanwhile, more lanes and more highways simply invite more drivers, more congestion, more dependence on costly private vehicles, and more vehicle interactions with other drivers that can go wrong in a heartbeat.
A modern, integrated transportation system built around reliable rail, connected buses, and safe walking and cycling infrastructure would give Islanders real freedom of movement. It would create true transportation choice that can be made affordable mobility for seniors, students, workers, families, and people with disabilities alike.
Modern rail has the potential to reduce living costs, improve safety, strengthen communities, support climate action, and give people back their time.
Vancouver Islanders deserve a transportation system designed around people.
We hope to reach 90,000 to 100,000 by the next Provincial or Federal Election.
Keep sharing! Keep promoting it, they're noticing the size of this petition, and so is the media.
