And we've gained another 120 signatures since! We need to keep the pressure on! Next stop 40,000!
We're starting to hear politicians speak to it positively, and I've been interviewed by Political Science students and young politically motivated homeowners that are asking why councils aren't talking about this obvious and key transportation asset more.
With Emily Lowan, leader of the Green party speaking up in support of Island Rail saying it's "obvious and key" as well as George Anderson, MLA for Nanaimo-Ladysmith, Parliamentary Secretary of Transit speaking about our rail corridor in the legislature, are we finally seeing the lights come on for island rail?
The CEO of the Nanaimo Port Authority talked about moving 1.2 to 1.4 million TEU's by rail in a recent presentation to the Standing Committee on Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, and that's over and above the commodities talked about in the 2026 report to the ACRD by HTEC.
The politics need to end and the pragmatic and sensible solution to Island Transportation problems needs to be brought back online.
Let's keep the momentum going!
