Please email the BC Minister of Transportation and Transit at TT.Minister@gov.bc.ca or @TranBC on social media platforms and urge him to make the $162 Million from the cancelled Goldstream project into the BC Component of LRT in the CRD.
Liberal MP Stephanie McLean recently stated that there is “significant movement” on the rail corridor file and that a federal funding component would be typical. She noted that there’s the needed new energy behind getting a commuter rail for the West Shore into Victoria.
The highly contested Goldstream Project didn't add any new capacity and multiple groups on Vancouver Island were actively campaigning against it, so we're happy to see the Minister pull the plug on it, it was a sensible move.
In December, the Songhees and Esquimalt First Nations signed a reconciliation Corridor agreement with the CRD and member municipalities that the corridor passes through.
With First Nations leading the way and BC and Federal Funding components, we might just see passenger rail return to Vancouver Island!
Keep up the great work sharing and promoting the petition!
