Petition updateRestore the Vancouver Island Railway for citizens, tourism, and Freight!DECOMMISSIONING COSTS OF VANCOUVER ISLAND RAIL ARE THE SAME AS RESTORING IT!

It's true! The CVRD released the costs in their "Backgrounder on Contamination Remediation" document, which puts a staggering $302.4 to $748.8 million price tag on removing and disposing of 289km of tracks, ties, and ballast. What a collosal waste of tax dollars that would be!

Please show up at the Duncan Train Station on the 14th of September 2024, 10 am to 2 pm, to make sure the CVRD makes good choices! They are holding a provincially funded public engagement!

Facts are facts, anything but rail will put the corridor into the railway decommissioning process. That's before anything else can be done with it.

By continuing as a railway, work to repair the tracks is considered a maintenance action, albeit a large overdue maintenance action. Rail with trails (as we continue to build rail trails) is the way to go.

$748 million would put the Island Corridor Foundation's Ultimate solution with 8 trains on it!

SAVE THAT DATE AND SHOW UP! The people that don't want trains are sure to go, so let's make sure that all of us supporters show up, too!

I can't thank you enough for your continued support to bring this essential corridor back up to speed and set Vancouver Island on a new course for travel on our beautiful island!
