As far as I have heard, the Honourable Pablo Rodriguez, Federal Minister of Transportation has not been out to Vancouver Island to address the Vancouver Island Rail Corridor and the needs of Vancouver Island.
Shall we send him an invite?
His email address is pablo.rodriguez@parl.gc.ca and I've listed a few points to get you started:
There is no public transportation North of Parksville or to Port Alberni.
The Federal Government will stop investing in large road projects as mentioned by the Federal Environment Minister.
The population of Vancouver Island is expected to be 1 million in only 6 years, 240,000 more people since the Day Liner shut down due to track conditions.
The Corridor was identified by both Rob Fleming, the BC Minister of Transportation and infrastructure and Omar Alghabra on the 14th of March 2023 as a strategic asset for Vancouver Island's transportation needs.
Port Alberni Emergency route through Horne Lake was considered "Too Costly for the benefit" by MOTI
Vancouver Island has a single set of highways prone to closures due to collisions, and fires and would be much more costly to expand than restoring rail.
80% of our population lives within 5km of the railway, that's a catchment of over 720,000 people today!
