In the absence of federal funding, Wrightsville Beach would need to rely on state and local resources to finance beach renourishment projects. New Hanover County has mechanisms in place, such as the Room Occupancy Tax (ROT), to support these initiatives. However, the ROT is primarily funded by visitors through lodging taxes.
The funding is meant to minimize the financial impact on local residents, but the costs associated with beach renourishment projects mean that, without federal assistance, the county and town may need to explore additional funding sources.
