Restart the Outward Bound Singapore for (14th to 18th sep)
The Issue
The Outdoor Adventure (OBS) that was eagerly anticipated by students and educators alike was cut short due to the haze that masked Singapore's skies in September 2026. Originally planned to span from the 14th to the 18th, this vital educational experience had to be truncated after just one day. The students of Evergreen Secondary School, together with their peers from OPSS and SNGS, missed the unique opportunity to learn important life skills, build lasting friendships, and gain invaluable real-world experiences.
Exploring nature, strengthening resilience, and fostering a sense of community are essential components of a student's holistic development. OBS offers a distinctive environment to impact these crucial skills away from traditional classroom settings. Sadly, the abrupt end to this year's camp has deprived hundreds of students of these opportunities.
The haze was an unfortunate and unforeseen natural circumstance, but it should not be the final chapter in our students’ outdoor educational journey. The benefits of OBS are well-documented: students improve teamwork skills, enhance personal and social responsibility, and gain self-confidence. Educational experts affirm that such experiential learning opportunities contribute significantly to the personal growth and development of young learners.
We propose that the informative and character-building experience of OBS with OPSS, CHIJS, and Evergreen Secondary School be rescheduled to ensure all students that were originally set to attend, can partake in the full experience they deserve. By taking this action, we ensure continuity in essential educational practices that are pivotal in shaping our future leaders.
To accomplish this, collaboration with the responsible educational bodies, reallocation of resources, and addressing logistical concerns with timely solutions will be essential. Discussions can involve leveraging school funds or seeking sponsorships from community partners who believe in empowering youth through dynamic learning experiences.
We urge the Ministry of Education and relevant stakeholders to consider this proposal and take swift action to reschedule and facilitate the completion of the OBS program for these deserving students. Let us transform disruption into opportunity, ensuring our students have the advantages they deserve.
Join us in calling on the Ministry to give our students the full Outdoor Adventure experience they were promised. Sign the petition to support our cause and ensure no child's educational experience is left incomplete.
