Although not much more has been disclosed to the public about the plans for the so-called Revitalization Zone, above is Smith Entertainment Group’s “aspirational” image of the garish, Las Vegas-strip-appearing place the billionaire-owned SEG has in mind for the "Revitalization Zone" in downtown Salt Lake City (with the destruction of the current beloved, iconic, irreplaceable Abravanel Hall, an elimination of building height restrictions, and allowance for a helipad--all apparently supported by Salt Lake City’s Mayor and Salt Lake County's Mayor).
Let’s keep up the pressure for a democratic process, by which the public will determine the top priorities for the expenditure of any public money raised through any sales tax increase. If a vote doesn't fit the Legislature's timeline, our local officials should insist on an extension of that timeline and not allow SEG or the legislature to shove this back-room deal between politicians and billionaires down our throats.
