Dear concerned residents and friends of the high desert,
We finally have more information to share with following our last update regarding the developer’s filed appeal of the Planning Commission’s “denial without prejudice” to grant them a Conditional Use Permit. If you remember, the developers cannot move forward in building the horrific glamping site Flamingo 640 without this permit. The official appeal, which was submitted to Contract Planner Jim Morrissey on July 20, 2023, remarks the only “issues were related to the size and scale of the project,” and has some new "schematic renderings" they hired Community Works Design Group (see green leaf in bottom right hand corner of appeal documents, link below) to create. The appeal surprisingly DOES NOT address any of the environmental and traffic concerns raised by residents in 1000+ pages of comments turned into Contract Planner Jim Morrissey in both 2021 and 2022, and the 30 + vocal comments on public record made known to the Planning Commission in March 2023.
The appeal documents with photos can be found now on www.saveourdeserts.org.
On Thursday evening, August 31, concerned Flamingo Heights and surrounding high desert residents met at the Flamingo Heights Community Center to educate themselves about the appeal and brainstorm next steps. The meeting was a crucial step in our ongoing efforts to address the proposed Flamingo 640 development and its potential impact on our community and the environment.
Some reminders about FH640:
- Without the Conditional Use Permit, RoBott land cannot move forward with the development
- This development poses great environmental and traffic concerns
- Talking points made in previous letters to Land Use Services can be found here
Next Steps:
At this time, we should keep our ears to the ground by staying informed and keeping an eye on Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission agendas (updates will also be made here). Once the time comes, we will use our collective voices so we can be heard, yet again, and get as many of our statements in opposition to this project on the record...again.
Thank you for your interest and staying informed on this project!
With appreciation,
Residents of the High Desert
