Three of icare NSW’s biggest scheme agents Gallagher Bassett, EML Group, and Allianz Australia have all released recent reports on workplace injury and mental health.
At first glance, they look like separate studies.
But look closer. A pattern is emerging.
Gallagher Bassett highlights that 20,000 injury claims in 2024 came mostly from preventable causes slips, trips, moving objects, body stress.
EML’s Mental Health White Paper reveals psychological claims now last 4× longer than physical ones, and that 30% of workers report a long-term mental health condition.
Allianz Australia’s research shows six in ten workers feel mentally distressed by workplace pressures, and nearly 80% of employees and managers say their organisations fail to enforce healthy boundaries.
Different datasets.
Same conclusion.
The problem isn’t the worker.
It’s the system and the culture driving it.
All three are icare-appointed scheme agents, managing tens of thousands of NSW workers’ compensation claims. Their own evidence points to what injured workers have said for years:
Workplace harm is preventable. It’s management systems, leadership, and organisational culture that make the difference.
When the data from the insurers themselves shows the system is harming people it’s time to stop blaming the injured and start reforming the architecture.
