After a lot of thought and hard work, we’re excited to share that we’ve officially formed a 501(c)(4) nonprofit: Friends of the Rio Grande Depot (FoRGeD). This organization will help implement the vision of the Rio Grande Plan, a plan to reconnect our city by burying the train tracks, restoring the Rio Grande Depot as Utah’s central station, and transforming a former railyard into a vibrant, walkable, bikeable, and transit-friendly neighborhood.
To get this work off the ground, we’ve launched a GoFundMe to raise seed money. You can contribute here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-via-rio-grande-transform-slcs-rail-system
Your donation will help us:
- Engage local stakeholders, community members, elected officials, and experts to build momentum and support.
- Develop a volunteer base and give them the tools they need to grow grassroots support across Utah.
- Fully activate the nonprofit’s potential and ensure long-term impact.
- Fund outreach efforts and expand awareness of the Rio Grande Plan statewide.
This is a pivotal moment. With your support, we can take the next big step toward a more sustainable and connected future. This will help ensure that by the 2034 Olympics, the Rio Grande Depot is restored as Utah’s Central Station.
