Require Transparency and Fairness in Food Delivery App Practices
Require Transparency and Fairness in Food Delivery App Practices
The Issue
Emerging issues with food delivery services such as DoorDash, UberEats, and others have prompted this call for overdue change. App users have voiced concerns that the current practice, showcasing tips to delivery drivers before orders are fulfilled, prejudices delivery services against clients who cannot afford to tip generously. This petition aims to make the food delivery industry more equitable so all users can benefit from these essential services, regardless of socioeconomic standing.
Statistically, poor service delivery is linked to lower tipping or no tipping at all (Michael Lynn, 2018), affecting competition and service quality in food delivery apps. This reliance on tip-before-service allows drivers to selectively fulfill deliveries, creating a system biased against those who cannot afford high gratuity. Moreover, socioeconomic studies show that 'tipping' is not merely a reflection of service quality, but also customer wealth (Azar, Ofer H., 2004). This means lower-income individuals are too often left at a disadvantage.
This petition calls for a review and modification of these unfair practices. Let’s make it mandatory for food delivery apps to disclose tips to drivers only after an order has been successfully delivered. This will ensure everyone gets quality service without prejudice or bias towards individuals who cannot afford to tip generously.
