With love from Lahore -- a Supporters' Card to supercharge the campaign over eight crucial weeks

'There are decades when nothing happens and weeks when decades happen.' Wrongly attributed to Lenin, but it fits.
We are heading at full tilt towards the Judicial Review of the City's decision to give the cafés to the Daisy Green chain. It is great news for the campaign, especially after the City of London were so adamant that there was nothing to see and that the challenge was hopeless. Instead, Mr Justice Sheldon agreed that four out of the five points were arguable.
Now we hope the Corporation's lawyers will offer full disclosure and access to the process. It is called their 'duty of candour' in a case involving a local authority, and it should give our excellent lawyers more material to sink their teeth into. We can't give full details of everything we showed Mr Justice Sheldon, but we found it shocking, and we look forward to seeing what the other side can produce in reply.
But this is where it really becomes expensive. The City will start running up a large legal bill, and the High Court has to be satisfied that, should we lose, the costs will be met. Meanwhile we are moving into the cold half of the year, when park cafés struggle to attract customers.
The three Hoxton Beach cafés have bucked the trend for years, becoming more popular year on year, with turnover more than doubling in eight years at Parliament Hill Lido, Queens Park and Highgate Wood. They need all possible help over the next few weeks.
So you are invited to apply for a supporters' card, which in practice has to be a Google or Apple pass for your phone. It gives holders five percent off everything, and we hope you will respond by upping your spend a little: olive oil soap from Marseilles, exclusive wines, jams and pickles, bread baked fresh each morning, specially imported crockery and glassware. Lovely, historic, and you won't find it anywhere else.
Mohammed Abdullah and his team write the software for these virtual loyalty cards from Johar Town in Lahore, about forty minutes from the Old City and the Badshahi Mosque. It hasn't all been plain sailing, with storms over London and dropped connections in cyberspace, but we are crossing our fingers for a bright future for the cafés and for this campaign.
