The United States is the only country which allows law-abiding residents to own tactical firearms, which are firearms carried by the military and police.  These weapons are designed for one purpose, which is to end human life.  A tactical gun, whether it is a long gun or a handgun, has certain specific design features:

1. Semi-automatic firing.
2. Bottom loading of ammunition.
3. Chambered for military-style ammunition (i.e., centerfire cartridges.)

Weapons which contain these design features should be licensed through the NFA system, which requires a more rigorous background check, the payment of a $250 tax to the Treasury Department, and can only be purchased from federally licensed NFA dealers.

The NFA system is currently utilized for the purchase of full-auto weapons (machine guns.) This process needs to be extended to certain semi-automatic weapons as well.
