My petition calling on Canada to require highly visible country of origin labels on all food products is gaining traction, accruing 1,558 signatures from Canadians across the country since Friday.

The impetus for creating this petition came from the Trump administration's threat to impose punishing tariffs on Canadian products under a wide variety of shaky pretexts, all the while explaining that we could dodge the tariffs by becoming a 51st state. While the tariffs are on "pause" for now, this experience has illustrated the importance of reducing Canada's economic dependence on our increasingly volatile southern neighbour.
