📢 A Small Ask That Could Make a BIG Difference — Please Share Our Petition

We are asking everyone who supports the work of the Friends of Stoney Royd Cemetery to do one very simple thing today:

Please share our petition with at least FIVE people and ask them to sign it.

Why does this matter?

Because we want a constructive, respectful and meaningful working relationship with Calderdale Council — one where community volunteers are viewed as an asset rather than an inconvenience.

Historically, promises have been made concerning Stoney Royd which, in our experience, have not always been followed through. More recently, we saw volunteers from a local business give up their valuable time to help prepare the cemetery for Heritage Week and the Polish All Souls' Day commemorations, only to be turned away.

For the Friends, that was incredibly disappointing.

These weren't people causing trouble. They weren't asking the Council for money.

They were offering their time for free to care for a civic cemetery.

We have raised the incident through the Council's formal complaints process, and we will allow that process to take its course. But it has strengthened our determination to demonstrate just how much public support exists for Stoney Royd and for genuine partnership with the community.

We don't want confrontation.

We want cooperation.

We don't want doors closed.

We want people around the same table.

And we certainly don't want enthusiastic community volunteers leaving Stoney Royd feeling that their willingness to help wasn't valued.

That's where you can make a difference.

If everyone who has already signed sends the petition to just five people — family, friends, neighbours, colleagues or community groups — our voice becomes considerably harder to overlook.

Don't just press share and hope somebody notices it. Send it directly to five people and say:

“Would you sign this for us? It matters.”

Five people.

Five conversations.

Five opportunities to make Stoney Royd's community voice a little louder.

We will continue doing what we have always tried to do: work professionally, follow the proper processes, ask difficult questions when necessary and fight positively for a cemetery that belongs to the people of Halifax.

Because partnership shouldn't mean the community standing on one side of a closed door.

It should mean opening that door and working together.
